General uploads use JPEG or 24-bit PNG without transparency, 320–3840 pixels per side, with the long side no more than twice the short side. Large-screen guidance calls for 9:16 or 16:9 images at 1080–7680 pixels. The examples here fit both ranges.

How to resize screenshots for Google Play

  1. Choose a phone or tablet capture

    Upload a screenshot of the real app experience. Use a separate tablet capture when its layout differs from the phone version.

  2. Reframe tall Android screens

    A 20:9 capture exceeds the general 2:1 limit. The selected 9:16 canvas is a useful starting point. Fit retains all content; Free Crop lets you control the cut.

  3. Download an opaque image

    Keep PNG output and a Blur or Color background, or choose JPEG. Review the exported image in the correct device section of Play Console.

The 2:1 rule is a maximum shape

Divide the longer edge by the shorter edge. A 1080 × 2160 image is exactly 2:1; 1080 × 2400 is about 2.22:1 and needs a different canvas or crop for general screenshot uploads.

Prepare each device story separately

Select the 7-inch or 10-inch tablet preset for a tablet capture. Keep controls and text readable in the resulting preview. A feature graphic is a separate asset with its own dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1080 × 1920 the minimum screenshot size?

No. It is a 9:16 portrait starting point. Google’s general minimum dimension is 320 pixels; recommended placements and device-specific sections have additional requirements.

Why does a tall Android screenshot need reframing?

General Play screenshot uploads cannot have a longer edge more than twice the shorter edge. A tall 20:9 source can be fitted onto a 9:16 canvas or cropped after checking that important content remains visible.

Does this tool support 7-inch and 10-inch tablets?
